The Pitt County School system consists of 34 schools, 6 high schools and 28 feeder schools.The system serves about 20,600 students and employs about 2,300 people including 1,500 teachers. Areas of focus include academic excellence, good citizenship and character building. Pitt County School graduates attend the finest colleges and universities in the country.

Pitt Community College is one of the regions most highly rated technical and vocational community colleges. The school awards degrees, diplomas and certificates for 56 programs. The school also offers a variety of other services such as, business counseling, adult education and continuing education courses. At PCC you have access to career counseling and placement services.

Greenville is home to the East Carolina University Pirates and the ECU/Brody School of Medicine.

East Carolina University is a doctoral-research institution with an enrollment of more than 21,000. ECU offers about 100 undergraduate degree program tracks and nearly 90 graduate degree programs. There are also 13 doctorate programs in fields such as medical sciences, education, coastal resources management, communication sciences and disorders, biomedical physics and nursing. ECU provides year-round sporting events, theatrical performances, art exhibits and musical performances, as well as lectures and educational seminars.

The ECU/Brody School of Medicine has earned a national reputation for excellence in the training of generalist physicians. Pitt County Memorial Hospital is a teaching hospital for the ECU/Brody School of Medicine. PCMH is Eastern North Carolina’s only Level I Trauma Center. They provide wellness and prevention to acute care, rehabilitation and home health. PCMH was rated among the Top 100 Hospitals in the United States by “Solucient” and Top 100 Company for working moms by “Working Mother” magazine.The Brody School of Medicine and Pitt Memorial are the anchors for a planned 2000 acre research development park.
